Medusa has always felt different to me than the story most people are told.
Depending on the version of the myth, she was transformed by a jealous goddess, punished for a violation she did not choose, pursued by those who sought to possess her, and ultimately remembered by history as a monster. Yet beneath the legend was a woman whose story was rewritten by others.
That is what draws me to her.
For me, Medusa is a reminder that there is often a truth beneath the narrative, and a person beneath the label. Her gaze feels less like a curse and more like a mirror. The turning back of judgment, projection, and entitlement onto those who wield them. A fierce protector standing between herself and those who would seek to define, possess, or diminish her. This piece honors survivors, truth-seekers, boundary-setters, and anyone learning to reclaim ownership of their own story.
