The Meaning Behind Archetypes: Which One Are You?

The Meaning Behind Archetypes: Which One Are You?

Have you ever felt drawn to a particular symbol, energy, or way of moving through the world — but couldn't quite name it? That pull might be leading you to work with an Archetype.

Archetypes are universal patterns of energy that show up across mythology, psychology, and spiritual traditions. Mirrors to our inner world and experience. They help us start to understand our instincts, our rituals, and even the scents and symbols that feel like home.

The concept of archetypes was popularized by psychologist Carl Jung, who believed that certain characters and energies are woven into the collective human experience. The Healer. The Mystic. The Wild One. The Sovereign. These archetypes can give us a language for the energy we're working with — whether we're setting an intention, choosing a ritual tool, or simply trying to understand why we keep returning to the same themes in our lives.

Archetypes and Their Signatures

The Mystic "I seek what lies beneath the surface."

🌑The Mystic is drawn inward. She trusts intuition over logic, finds meaning in dreams and symbols, and feels most alive in liminal spaces — dusk, new moons, the quiet before sleep.

Ritual signatures: Dark, resinous scents (oud, frankincense, black amber). Candles lit in silence. Journaling by low light.

🌿 The Healer "I tend to what needs to be made whole again — in others and in myself."

The Healer carries deep empathy and a gift for restoration. She's drawn to herbs, to touch, to the slow work of making things whole. Her rituals are gentle and consistent.

Ritual signatures: Earthy, herbal scents (cedar, sage, vetiver). Ritual baths. Oils applied with intention and care.

🔥 The Wild One "I follow the fire, not the map." Untamed and instinct-led, the Wild One lives close to her edges. She doesn't perform her spirituality — she feels it. Her rituals are raw, embodied, and unapologetic.

Ritual signatures: Smoky, spiced scents (clove, tobacco, palo santo). Candles burned to the end. Movement as prayer.

👑 The Sovereign "I know my worth. I build my world with intention."

The Sovereign leads from within. She is deliberate, self-possessed, and deeply committed to her vision. Her rituals are acts of self-respect and declaration.

Ritual signatures: Rich, commanding scents (sandalwood, rose absolute, golden amber). Morning rituals. Candles as anchors for intention-setting.

🌙 The Liminal One "I live between worlds."

The Liminal One doesn't fit neatly anywhere — and that's her power. She moves between seasons, identities, and states of being with grace. She is always in transformation.

Ritual signatures: Shifting, complex scents (smoke and florals, salt and resin). Rituals at thresholds — doorways, seasons, endings and beginnings.

How to Work With Your Archetype

You don't have to choose just one — most of us carry two or three, with one dominant energy that shifts over time.

Here's how to begin.

Notice what resonates.Which description made you pause? Which felt like recognition rather than aspiration Build a small altar to that energy. A candle, a scent, an object that feels aligned. Choose a ritual that matches your archetype's rhythm — daily and quiet for the Healer, bold and spontaneous for the Wild One. Let your scent be a cue. Scent is one of the fastest ways to shift your nervous system into a ritual state. Choose one that feels like you.
